PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a button type alkaline battery whose anode can is reduced in thickness while retaining mechanical strength to expand an internal space and increase the amount of an active material, thereby offering high battery capacity. SOLUTION: A button type alkaline battery of the present invention includes an anode can 6 containing a nickel layer 61 and a stainless steel layer 62. This button type alkaline battery anode can is characterized in that it contains, on top of the stainless steel layer 62, a metal layer 63 whose hydrogenation voltage is higher than that of copper and, further on top of it, a copper layer 64.
