PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system and method for efficiently supporting data calls to WTRUs (101, 102, 103) in systems that also support telephony.SOLUTION: Various types of data are transmitted on a known schedule which is tightly synchronized to predetermined time slots (56) in a time frame (54). The WTRUs (101, 102, 103) synchronize their wake-up periods to search for data during their respective allocated time period when data is actually transmitted to the WTRUs, which results in reduced power consumption in their quiescent state corresponding to the number of the ignored frames. |
