PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a refrigeration cycle system having a configuration and the like capable of performing an efficient operation. SOLUTION: The refrigeration cycle system includes a refrigeration cycle device 10 having a plurality of refrigeration cycle circuits each comprising a compressor 1, a heat source side heat exchanger 2 for exchanging heat with water flowing in a heat source side water channel 12, an expansion valve 3, and a load side heat exchanger 4 for exchanging heat with water flowing in a load side water channel 11 by piping connection. A plurality of the refrigeration cycle devices 10 is arranged in series in each of the load side water channel 11 and the heat source side water channel 12 along flows of water. The refrigeration cycle system includes a control device 9 which determines the number of compressors 1 to be driven and volumes of the compressors 1 relating to the drive, and determines, when the number of the determined compressors 1 to be driven is determined as a plurality of numbers, to employ a distributed operation or a centralized operation based on temperature differences between an inlet and an outlet in the load side water channel 11 and in the heat source side water channel 12 and on the respective reference temperature differences.
