[Class 78 (i)] Material such as coal is conveyed along a conduit 2, Fig. 1, by a chain 4 which is reciprocated by a crank mechanism 8 connected by a cable 9 to a piston 10 attached to one of its ends, and by a weight 12, or spring or dashpot mechanism, connected to the other end. The chain has a number of conveying elements secured to it, each of which comprises a tapered central tubular portion from which four tapered blades 5, Fig. 3, extend radially. Material may be delivered to the conduit by a bucket elevator, and in this construction the chain is reciprocated by a flywheel fixed to the shaft of the upper drum of the elevator. |
