A light-reflecting element (40) projects from one of an upper or lower surface of a wheel (16) of a timepiece mechanism (1). The light source and the light detection system are arranged in a position of the wheel of the timepiece mechanism. The timepiece mechanism can thus be equipped with detection and synchronization device with unaltered dimensions. The detection and synchronization device is less bulky.
