A method for measuring temperature continuously along a path using a distributed temperature sensing (DTS) system includes positioning a plurality of sections of conduit 102 joined by couplings 104 as a single continuum along the path and inserting an optical fibre having an incidence end 106a and a free end 106b, into the conduit such that a radial air gap is present. The free end of the fibre is propelled along the path with a pressurized gas. The gas can be either air or nitrogen. A light pulse is then generated at the incidence end and backscattered light components of the light pulse are received from each of a plurality of distances along the path. Intensities of the backscattered light components are then measured and temperature is derived. A system for performing this method is also disclosed. |
