The invention relates to a blocker making it possible, as desired, to obtain temporary blocking of the safety (belay) rope of the climber. It consists of a component (1), working in association with a descender (4), connected by a hooking means (7) to the crab (karabiner) (2) linked to the harness (3), having, at the other end, a notch (6) for the rope (5) emerging from the descender, of a size such that the distance between (7) and (6) is less than the distance D existing between the eyelet (20) and the base of the large loop (21) of the descender (4) and which, in the active position, prevents slipping of the rope (5) in the direction F.
