PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic vending machine capable of detecting persons within a predetermined distance by using an optical signal communication adapter for receiving a request signal from an external device, while transmitting a data signal in response to the request signal. SOLUTION: In the automatic vending machine provided with the optical communication adapter provided with a sales information displaying part for displaying sales information including a thrown-in amount, wherein a light receiving element 37 receives a request signal transmitted from an external device, while a light emitting element 36 transmits a response signal in response to the received request signal, since it is determined that a person exists within a predetermined distance when an infrared signal outputted from the light emitting element 36 is reflected, and received by the light receiving element 37, the use of the optical signal communication adapter can detect the person within a predetermined distance.
