A driveline control system is provided for a vehicle 100. The system is operable to control the driveline to vary an amount of torque coupling between first and second groups of one or more wheels, causing automatic application of wheel brake torque in response to detection of at least one wheel 112-115 losing traction. If in response to the traction loss, the amount of brake torque or pressure exceeds a threshold value, the control system causes the driveline to reduce the amount of torque coupling. The system comprises a dynamic stability controller 150 and a driveline controller 140 and typically operates via multi-plate wet power transfer clutch 152, an auxiliary drive shaft 123 and rear axle clutches 127 for use in four wheel drive mode. The vehicle 100 is also provided with an ABS controller 160. The invention is aimed at improved vehicle control. |
