A turbine blade for a water current or wind turbine comprises first and second blade shells 20, 21 and a spar 24. A plurality of machined foam blocks 29, 30, 31, 32 are installed in the first and second shells by bonding with resin or adhesive. At least one of the machined foam blocks has an outer surface that corresponds to an inner surface of one of the shells. The foam blocks are fitted to the shells and the shells are fixed to one another. At least one of the blocks 29-32 has a groove 45, 46 which is able to accommodate excess adhesive when the shells and blocks are fitted together. A foam-forming material may be applied to fill the grooves. |
