A field water purification system is described. The field water purification system includes a container and a filter coupled to an outlet port of the container. The container includes a first layer and a second layer of polymeric material. A first edge of the first layer is bonded to a first edge of the second layer. A second edge of the first layer is bonded to a second edge of the second layer. A first end of the first layer is bonded to a first end of the second layer. The outlet port is disposed in the first layer at a first distance from the first end. A flat water filter is also described. A method for treating water is also described. |

1. A field water purification system comprising:
a container including:
a first layer and a second layer of polymeric material, a first edge of the first layer being bonded to a first edge of the second layer, a second edge of the first layer being bonded to a second edge of the second layer, a first end of the first layer being bonded to a first end of the second layer; andan outlet port disposed in the first layer, the outlet port disposed a first distance from the first end of the first laver; and a filter coupled to the outlet port, the filter including:
a water tight enclosure being formed between a third layer of polymeric material and a fourth layer of polymeric material;a quantity of filter media disposed between the third layer and the fourth layer; andan outer channel having a first side formed by the water tight enclosure and a second side opposite from the first side, the second side including a plurality of bonded segments of a third layer and a fourth layer interspersed with a plurality of nonbonded segments of the third layer and the fourth layer, the nonbonded segments defining a plurality of openings in an intermittent barrier disposed between the outer channel and the filter media. |
