PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and a method capable of reducing wasteful consumption of ink due to idle discharge of an unused nozzle.SOLUTION: An image forming device includes: a first discharge member having a nozzle array for discharging a first droplet; and a second discharge member having a nozzle array for discharging a second droplet. It also includes: a region setting unit 34 for setting a first region in a sub scanning direction for selecting a nozzle used for discharge of the first droplet, and a second region in the sub scanning direction for selecting a nozzle used for discharge of the second droplet, with respect to the nozzle arrays of the first discharge member and the second discharge member extending in the sub scanning direction; and a replacement instruction unit 35 for instructing the replacement of the first region with the second region to the region setting unit 34, when time in which the nozzles in the second region of the first discharge member and in the first region of the second discharge member are not used exceeds preset time.
