PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing molded solid fuel capable of producing molded solid fuel of high strength starting from low-grade coal as raw material.SOLUTION: A method comprises: a pulverizing step for pulverizing low-grade coal; a mixing step for obtaining slurry by mixing a pulverized low-grade coal and a solvent oil; a dewatering step for obtaining dewatered slurry by heating and dewatering the slurry; a solid-liquid separation step for obtaining cake by separating the solvent oil from the dewatered slurry; a drying step for obtaining powdery modified coal by heating the cake and further separating the solvent oil therefrom; and a molding step for compression molding the powdery modified coal without adding or mixing binding agent, using molding machine, and the method is characterized in providing cooling by spraying coolant to surfaces of the molding machine to maintain surface temperatures of the molding machine below 100°C during the molding step.
