PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To align a liquid crystal material in a sufficiently uniform way, in producing a retardation layer by aligning the liquid crystal material by alignment regulating force of an alignment film due to scars of rubbing processing, even when producing the retardation layer with a liquid crystal material having reverse dispersion characteristics.SOLUTION: An optical film includes a substrate 15 composed of a transparent film, an alignment film 18 produced on one surface of the substrate 15, and a retardation layer 17 produced on the alignment film 18 and composed of a liquid crystal material aligned and solidified by alignment regulating force of the alignment film 18, where the alignment film 18 has an average surface roughness (Ra) of 3 nm or more and 10 nm or less.
