PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately and surely read paper information by eliminating a reading error, and to secure sufficient reliability and stability, and to contribute to the miniaturization and cost reduction of ID tag reading means, and to contribute to the improvement of power saving property.SOLUTION: A paper information reading method of a printer includes: performing ID tag detection processing of rotating a recording paper roll Rp set in a printer 1 from the set position in a positive direction Ff in which recording paper Pr is delivered, and detecting the presence/absence of an ID tag 3 by ID tag reading means 4 when the recording paper roll Rp is rotated; performing stop control processing of stopping the rotation of the recording paper roll Rp when the ID tag 3 is detected; performing paper information reading processing of reading paper information INp recorded in the ID tag 3 by the ID tag reading means 4 after the rotation of the recording paper roll Rp is stopped; and performing return control processing of returning the recording paper roll Rp to the set position by rotating it in an inverse direction Fr.
