A system 200 for supporting product recall events with a retail environment comprises a controlling server 60 coupled to local servers 20, in turn coupled to a plurality of in-store portable devices 30 which may be handheld smart devices or wearable devices such as smart glasses or smart watches. The controlling server 60 receives a recall notification message 51 from a source device 50 and distributes a recall command 52 across a network 40 to local servers 20 which, in turn produce task messages 53 for the in-store portable devices 30. Store assistants withdraw the appropriate defective product from the store shelves and capture the proof by way of a photographic image using the in-store portable device. Evidence messages 54 which may contain images captured by the in-store portable devices 30 are returned via the local servers 20 to the controlling server 60. In this way, a clear audit trail of successful withdrawal of the product is collated, the invention offers a more efficient and cost-effective means of recalling defective products. |
