<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a quantifying method for magnesium oxide and magnesium hydroxide in an inorganic compound sample, which can be performed accurately and easily in a short period.SOLUTION: A sample is brought into contact with a solvent of iodine-containing alcohol, thereby magnesium oxide and magnesium hydroxide contained in the sample are dissolved in the solvent, and the amount of dissolved magnesium is obtained. In the meantime, the sample is subjected to a thermogravimetric analysis and the amount of magnesium hydroxide is calculated from a decrease in mass of magnesium hydroxide caused by dehydration. Next, the amount of magnesium oxide is obtained on the basis of the amount of magnesium acquired by subtracting the amount of magnesium calculated from the thermogravimetric analysis from the amount of dissolved magnesium.</p> |
