An apparatus for providing augmented reality comprises: a camera unit including a first camera unit for taking a first image and a second camera unit for taking a second image; an image recognizing unit for recognizing markers included in the first image and the second image; and a marker extracting unit which extracts first coordinates of the marker from the first image and second coordinates of the marker from the second image, calculates depth information of the markers using a spacing between the first camera module and the second camera module, the first coordinates, and the second coordinates, and calculates three dimensional coordinates of the markers. Images of the markers are taken using a stereo camera, such that three dimensional positions of the markers are obtained, and a marker which is parallel to a photographing line of one camera, can be detected using the other camera. Also, the markers can be easily tracked by rotating and moving the markers in up and down directions. Furthermore, the three dimensional coordinates of the markers are calculated in real time, such that real world information can be accurately matched with content information using the extracted three dimensional coordinates. |
