A medium transporting apparatus is used for transporting a label web including a carrier web and labels adhered thereto. A platen roller (3) is configured to transport the label web in a transport path. A pressure roller (1) is disposed downstream of the separating member (4) with respect to the transport path, and causes the carrier web to be kinked. The pressure roller (1) urges the carrier web against the platen roller (3). A support member (21) is mounted on a cover and is configured to rotatably support the pressure roller (1) thereon. When the cover is pivotal between an open position and a closed and ed such that immediately after the cover has moved to the closed position, the pressure roller (1) contacts the platen roller (3) and then slides by a predetermined amount on the circumferential surface of the platen roller (3) in a direction away from the separating member (4). Thus, the carrier web sandwiched between the pressure and platen rollers becomes taut. |
