PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rear body structure of an automobile which attains light weight and low cost and furthermore secures necessary rigidity for an upper side corner part of a back door opening against an upward load from a load surface. SOLUTION: In the rear body structure of the automobile, at least an almost all part of a radiused part of the upper side corner part 1c of the back door opening 1a is formed by a rear header panel 3, an upper edge part of a back door opening side side part 13a of a pillar inner panel 12 is connected to an end part 20b of the upper side corner part of the rear header panel 3, an overhang 13f extending along the back door opening side side part 13a is formed on the pillar inner panel 12 to overhang on a vehicle compartment side, and a ridge line a1 of the overhang 13f and a ridge line a2 formed by a vertical wall part 3a and a bottom wall part 3b formed on at least an upper side corner part 1c of the rear header panel 3 are made to be continuous.
