Cutting means are mounted on a slurry pump to shear elongate material, eg twine, string or strands of fodder, which may be included in the slurry and hence prevent the elongate material from becoming entangled in the slurry pump, especially from entering the impeller housing of the slurry pump where it could become entangled in the impeller mechanism. The cutting means may comprise at least two co-operating blades, eg a rotatable blade 48 and an associated fixed blade 68. The fixed blade 68 may have a cutting edge 71 and may be mounted on an upper or lower position on the impeller housing 90. The rotatable blade 48 may be in the form of a parallelogram with two cutting edges 51, 52 and may rotate alternately in opposite directions to unjam the pump. |
