A data centre and method of cooling racks of items of electronic equipment in a data centre building are disclosed; the racks 143 are accommodated in a plurality of rack storage areas in a data centre building comprising a plurality of cold aisles 144 interleaved between a multiplicity of hot aisles 145, the hot and cold aisles each being positioned between two adjacent rack storage areas; the racks of items of electronic equipment are cooled by operating one or more controllable air circulation devices, comprising one or more fans, upstream of the racks to transport air, comprising ambient air from outside the building and optionally recirculated air, to the cold aisles and thus to the racks, via a humidity based cooling unit, the air being transported above the floor via at least one access corridor 123; the access corridor and the cold aisles provide access to the plurality of rack storage areas; the air is removed from the racks and at least partially exhausted from the building. The pressure in the cold isles may be controlled to facilitate cooling. |
