Divided out of 457,108. [Class 80 (ii)] An electro-pneumatic actuator 220 for a gear-shift lever 14 is rendered operative by an electric switch 274, which is closed by disengagement of the main-clutch 12, such disengagement being effected by depressing the usual pedal 240, or by release of the vehicle accelerator to open a valve 36 and energize a vacuum motor 32, leading to the engine inlet pipe 26. The gear-actuator 220, also energized by enginesuction, is the same as that described in Specification 457,108 comprising a doubleacting gear-establishing motor and an integral single-acting cross-shift diaphragm motor, which latter acts against a permanent spring bias to swing the actuator laterally about its pivotal mounting 222 into the plane for selecting low-speed and reverse. The control valve-unit 24, integral with the actuator, is also the same as that in the above-mentioned Specification, with the exception that three electric solenoids directly control the valves. The circuits of the three solenoids are completed through the clutch-switch 274 and a manual preselector switch 74, comprising a miniature lever the movements of which simulate those of the main lever 14, as in the above-mentioned Specification. Control of the two solenoids controlling the gear-establishing motor only, can also be effected by a two-way switch, operated by rocking a treadle 34, which corresponds to the mechanical treadle in the above-mentioned Specification. The clutch-switch is arranged to keep the gear-shift actuator 220 loaded until after the main-clutch 12 has engaged sufficiently to apply a torque to the gears to facilitate the change. Further to assist this action, a checkvalve 276 may be arranged in the suction-inlet to the gear-shift actuator, or the size of the conduit 248 may be such as to render the checkvalve unnecessary. The clutch-motor 32 is more fully described in Specifications 412,184 and 443,718. Specification 442,128 also is referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 included also the whole of the subjectmatter of Specification 457,108. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.</p>
