The present invention relates to a subsea electrical generation system. More particularly, but not exclusively, the invention relates to a subsea electrical generation system for use in extracting energy from tidal movement. Problems associated with existing subsea tidal generation systems have been the tendency for the turbines to clog with debris and silt. The invention overcomes these problems by providing a sub-sea generator which is fitted with a plurality of blades which is adapted to be received in a housing that is located on the sea bed. The housing has protective walls along its front and rearward facing blade edges and a channel is disposed so as to prevent build-up of silt. A cover plate is provided to act as a guard against fish and other debris from impinging the blades. Ideally the cover plate comprises a plurality of parallel plates separated by adjustable flow spacers. |
