PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bifunctional halogenated pinacol derivative having a low refractive index and a low surface tension, and to provide a method for producing the derivative. SOLUTION: The halogenated pinacol derivative is represented by formula (I) (wherein, R<SP POS="POST">1</SP>is a hydrogen atom or a methyl group; and X<SP POS="POST">1</SP>is a halogen atom). The method for producing the halogenated pinacol derivative represented by formula (I) includes reacting a halogenated pinacol with a (meth)acrylic acid halide in the presence of a base in a solvent.
