<p>An electrical connector comprising a housing (11) provided on one of opposite end portions (11a, 11b) thereof with an opening (12) through which a flat circuit device (50) is inserted into the housing (11), a plurality of conductive contacts (13) arranged on the housing (11) for contacting with connecting terminals (51) on the flat circuit device (50) in the housing (11), and a shell member (14) mounted on the housing (11) and provided therein with a holding portion (29; 34) operative to hold the flat circuit device (50) in the housing (11), a releasing portion (25; 30) operative to release the flat circuit device (50) from holding by the holding portion (29; 34) and a connecting portion (26; 31) for connecting the holding portion (29; 34) with the releasing portion (25; 30), characterized in that the releasing portion (25; 39) extends from the shell member (14) toward the outside thereof, the connecting portion (26; 31) extends to be bent from the releasing portion (25; 30) in a direction perpendicular to a conductive contact arrangement and the holding portion (29; 34) extends to be bent from the connecting portion (26; 31), so that a folded-back protrusion is constituted in a body in the shell member (14) with the releasing, connecting and holding portions (25; 30, 26; 31, 29; 34).
