The present invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition containing an extract of Carpesium abrotanoides as an active ingredient for preventing and treating atopic dermatitis and inflammatory disorders. More specifically, the extract of Carpesium abrotanoides in the present invention significantly decreases the expression of inflammatory cytokines including interferon gamma (IFNγ) and IL-10 at the transcriptional level, and in comparison with dexamethasone (DEX), the conventional anti-inflammatory drug, the DEX only inhibits the expression of IFNγ while the extract of Carpesium abrotanoides significantly inhibits the expression of both IFNγ and IL-10, thereby being able to be useful as a pharmaceutical composition, a skin external preparation composition, a cosmetic composition, and a healthy food composition for preventing and treating atopic dermatitis and inflammatory disorders.
