PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To certainly and accurately detect a faulty LED in a short time, without assembling a measuring instrument for a current passing through the LED in an image reading device.SOLUTION: An image reading device includes a lamp which includes a plurality of blocks formed by a plurality of LEDs, and in which the LEDs are aligned so as to arrange the LED of another block between the LEDs in the block; an optical system member for leading light reflected by a reading object; an image sensor into which the reflection light of the reading object enters and which reads the reading object; and a fault detecting portion for detecting the fault of the LEDs included in the lamp. When detecting the fault of the LEDs, the lamp switches turning on/off of the LEDs per block unit such that at least every other LED is turned on in the aligned LEDs. The fault detecting portion detects the fault of the LEDs on the basis of whether a light quantity level of pixels corresponding to the turned-on LED is not less than a predetermined threshold or not, in image data. |
