1. A computer implemented method for optimal combined 2R/3R regenerators placement for optical transmission, said method comprising the steps of:
i) determining an optimal placement of multiple 2R and 3R regenerators that minimizes bit error rate BER at a destination node; ii) determining an optimal number of said 2R and 3R regenerators that minimizes a total cost while satisfying said BER at said destination node; and iii) determining an optimal placement of said 2R and 3R regenerators along a route in said optical transmission; wherein said step i) comprises dynamic programming that recursively solves determining a mixed 2R/3R regenerator placement that is optimal with a time required for determining said optimal placement increases polynomially with a number of nodes along said route that is lower than without said optimal placement. |
