1. A method of open surgical repair of a lacerated or transected body vessel to obtain fluid stability while maintaining fluid flow through the body vessel, comprising:
inserting a first outer end of a prosthesis into a first vessel portion of the body vessel, wherein the prosthesis comprises a support structure and a graft body, the first outer end of the prosthesis being retained in a compressed configuration with a first sleeve portion, the first outer end being self-expandable and the first sleeve portion being dissolvable; inserting a second outer end of the prosthesis into a second vessel portion of the body vessel, wherein the second outer end of the prosthesis is retained in a compressed configuration with a second sleeve portion, the second outer end being self-expandable and the second sleeve portion being dissolvable; and dissolving the first and second sleeve portions while the first and second outer ends of the prosthesis are within the first and second vessel portions, the first and second sleeve portions thereby weakening retention of the first and second outer ends and the first and second outer ends radially expanding to engage the first and second vessel portions, the prosthesis comprising a longitudinal length sufficient to bridge and seal the laceration or bridge and interconnect the gap between the transection. |
