PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyester resin that has an intrinsic viscosity suitable for uses in a molded article, is substantially free from Co, and has excellent hue and to provide a method for producing the polyester resin.SOLUTION: The polyester resin is produced by subjecting a dicarboxylic acid component composed mainly of an aromatic dicarboxylic acid or an ester-forming derivative thereof and a diol component composed mainly of an aliphatic diol or an ester-forming derivative thereof to polycondensation. The polyester resin has a content of each of metals contained in the resin satisfying (1) 180 ppm≤Sb≤290 ppm, (2) 1 ppm≤Mg≤9.5 ppm, (3) 0.2≤Mg/P≤1.0, (4) 0 ppm≤Co<1 ppm, and (5) 10≤P≤24 ppm (provided that Sb represents an antimony atom content; Mg represents a magnesium atom content; P represents a phosphorus atom content; Co represents a cobalt atom content; and Mg/P represents a weight ratio) and has a hue L value of 80 or more and a hue b value of 1 or less. The polyester resin has an intrinsic viscosity of 0.50-1.50 dl/g. |
