PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a positive electrode for a lithium ion secondary battery which is high in capacity and low in resistance; and a lithium ion secondary battery.SOLUTION: A positive electrode for a lithium ion secondary battery comprises: a current collector; and a positive electrode active material layer bound to the current collector. The positive electrode active material layer has: a positive electrode active material; a conductive assistant; and a binding agent. The conductive assistant includes scale-like graphite and amorphous carbon. The content of the scale-like graphite is 0.5-1.5 mass% to 100 mass% of the positive electrode active material layer, and the content of the amorphous carbon is one to five times that of the scale-like graphite.
