A method for detecting the edge of an image, an apparatus thereof, and a computer-readable recording medium implementing the method are provided to enable an edge detection unit to detect the edge in the image on the basis of estimated noise distribution, thereby knowing the structure of a scene even in a very dark image and removing noise effectively even in a very bright image. An apparatus(10) for detecting an edge in an image comprises a noise detection unit(11), an edge detection unit(12), and a display unit(20). The noise detection unit estimates noise distribution according to the noise parameters of the image and linear relation in brightness of the image, and outputs the estimated noise distribution to the edge detection unit. The edge detection unit detects the edge in the image on the basis of the estimated noise distribution, and outputs the detected edge to the display unit. Then, the display unit displays an edge image for an original image.
