The present invention is a gas generator that has a cylindrical housing in which an ignition means chamber and a pressurized-gas chamber are formed, wherein: a circular blocking member having a fragile part formed on one surface thereof isolates the chambers from each other; a piston provided inside the ignition means chamber has a base section and a rod section that extends from one surface of the base section in an axial direction and comes into contact with or faces the blocking member; the fragile part is a groove formed by a curved line that, when two mutually orthogonal straight lines (Y1, Y2) passing through an intersection (X2) are drawn on either surface of the blocking member, extends from a start point (A) on Y1 to an end point (E) while passing through a first intermediate point (B) on Y2, a second intermediate point (C) on Y1, and a third intermediate point (D) on Y2; the distances from the intersection (X2) to the respective points of the groove are represented by start point (A) < first intermediate point (B) < second intermediate point (C) < third intermediate point (D) < end point (E), with the end point (E) passing through the third intermediate point (D) on Y2 and being a point (E1) that intersects Y1, a point (E2) that is located closer to the third intermediate point (D) than the intersection, or a point (E3) beyond E1; and the blocking member tears open along the groove from the vicinity of the start point (A) to the end point (E) when the rod section pushes on a position near the groove in an area between the start point (A) and the first intermediate point (B) without coming into contact with the start point (A). |
