1290792 Optical brighteners FARBENFABRIKEN BAYER AG 3 Nov 1970 [3 Nov 1969] 52215/70 Heading D1P [Also in Divisions C2 and C5] Textile materials and paper are optically brightened by treatment with 2-styrylbenzotriazoles of the formula in which R 1 is hydrogen, halogen, alkyl or alkoxy and R 2 and R 3 are each hydrogen, halogen, alkyl, alkoxy, aryl, aryloxy, aralkyl, aralkyloxy, amino, acylamino, cyano, carboxy, alkoxycarbonyl, carbamoyl, sulpho, sulphamoyl, sulphonyl or optionally substituted pyrazole or triazole radicals. The brighteners may be applied from an aqueous medium to synthetic, semi-synthetic or natural textile materials or to paper at various stages of manufacture. Examples describe the treatment of a terephthalic acid/ethyleneglycol polyester yarn and fabric, a polyamide fabric and a polypropylene yarn. |
