A feeding utensil comprises a handle 2, 22 and a distal end platform 9, 19 for carrying food. A flange 6, 26 projects from a neck region 5, 25 between the handle and the distal end portion. The flange may be non-symmetrical about the longitudinal axis of the utensil and form a cover over the rear part of the platform to create a cavity for holding food. It may also extend radially around the neck region such that its width on one side of the flange is greater than its width on the opposite side, to form a barrier between the handle and the platform. The flange and can be removable. The platform can be planar, provide a fork with two or more prongs 11, one of which may have a serrated edge 13 and be recessed between the prongs 11 and the barrier to form a trough. In use, the flange helps to prevent food from being spilled and prevents the utensil from being placed too far into the users mouth. The utensil can be adapted for both left and right-handed users. |
