[Class 20 (iii)] A windscreen 1 for a vehicle is formed so as to be self-supporting on the scuttle 3, and to make weather-proof joints with the forward edges of doors or side windows. The screen may be made of glass, preferably toughened, or synthetic transparent material, and may comprise sections joined by fillets 14, 15 of the same material, or of metal, screwed together. The screen is secured by screws directly to the roof and scuttle. The meeting edges of the screen and side window may be halved or bent, as shown in Figs. 5 and 6, the joint being suitably displaced with respect to the hinge so as to separate when the door is opened. Alternatively, the screen and door windows may have interlocking edges, the door window being lowered before opening the door when the door is hinged at the rear edge. To prevent damage to the window in the latter modification, the door latching mechanism may be connected to the window regulator so that the window is automatically lowered when the door is opened.</p> |
