The invention relates to a pump, particularly a vane-type pump, comprising at least one displacement body, which is disposed between two pressure plates, which at the rear sides thereof facing away from the displacement body are subjected substantially to a delivery pressure of the pump in order to minimize leakage gaps between the displacement body and the pressure plates. The invention is characterized in that the rear side of one of the pressure plates can be connected by way of a valve device, which is combined with a flow control valve, to a pressure relief space in order to lower the pressure acting on the rear side of said pressure plate in a targeted manner.
