PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a power amplifier and a communication device that implement improved amplification efficiency.SOLUTION: The power amplifier includes: a first amplification circuit and a second amplification circuit which are controlled such that, when one of these amplifies a signal, the other does not amplify the signal, with the result that either of these amplifies the signal to be output from a common output terminal; a first impedance transformation circuit connected between the first amplification circuit and the output terminal to transform an output impedance of the first amplification circuit; a second impedance transformation circuit connected between the second amplification circuit and wiring coupling the first impedance transformation circuit and the output terminal to transform an output impedance of the second amplification circuit; and a connection circuit for, when the first amplification circuit amplifies the signal, connecting wiring coupling the first amplification circuit and the output terminal to a reference potential to form a path bypassing the second impedance transformation circuit between the wiring coupling the first impedance transformation circuit and the output terminal, and the reference potential. |
