PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an alternative method for producing 17α-(3-hydroxypropyl)-17&bgr;-hydroxysteroid from corresponding 17-ketosteroid of Formula III, which enables production of the target compound with higher yield and purity.SOLUTION: The method for producing 17α-(3-hydroxypropyl)-17&bgr;-hydroxysteroid of Formula I comprises the steps of: a) reacting 17-ketosteroid of Formula III with prop-1-yne-3-ol ether of Formula IV in the presence of a base to obtain a compound of Formula V; b) completing catalytic hydrogenation of the alkyne group of the compound of Formula V; and c) removing a benzyl protective group.
