PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a polyhydroxy polyether resin which has good solubility, film-forming property, high heat resistance and adhesiveness and has an appropriate viscosity and good flowability as an adhesive, and to provide a resin composition containing the polyhydroxy polyether resin.SOLUTION: There is provided a method for producing a polyhydroxy polyether resin having a weight average molecular weight of 15,000 to 100,000 by polymerization reaction using difunctional epoxy resins (X), divalent phenol compounds (Y) and a compound (A) having three or more functional groups selected from an epoxy group or an active hydrogen group reactive with the epoxy group and a compound (B) having the functional group as reaction raw materials in the presence of a catalyst, wherein the ratio (mass ratio) between the compounds (A) and (B) in the reaction raw materials (X+Y+A+B) is more than 0 and 0.05 or less.
