<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for driving an optical modulator by which an optical modulator can be efficiently operated at a plurality of resonant frequencies without disposing a resonant electrode for each resonant frequency.SOLUTION: The method for driving an optical modulator aims to drive an optical modulator including a substrate having an electro-optic effect, an optical waveguide formed on the substrate along one direction, a resonant electrode disposed along the optical waveguide, and a power supply part which is disposed to oppose to the resonant electrode as spaced from the resonant electrode, and is disposed at positions corresponding to the respective antinodes of a plurality of standing waves formed on the resonant electrode by a signal input to the resonant electrode. Electric signals are supplied to the power supply part so as to simultaneously form a plurality of standing waves on the resonant electrode.</p> |
