Novel compounds of formulµ where R is H, alkyl, cycloalkyl or optionally substituted aryl; R 2 is alkyl, substituted alkyl, alkenyl or optionally substituted aryl, Q represents the atoms necessary to complete a heterocyclic ring system comprising at least one 5- or 6-membered heterocyclic ring and fused to the imidazole ring and X is an acid anion are prepared by treating with POCl 3 in HCONMe 2 followed by hydrolysis with aqueous NaOH, and quaternating if desired. Compounds of Formula V are prepared by reacting appropriate α-bromoacetophenones with appropriate amino-substituted heterocycles. Thus prepared are 2-phenyl-, 8-methyl-2- (4 - nitrophenyl)-, 7 - methyl - 2 - (4 - nitrophenyl)- and 8 - methyl - 2 - (4 - phenylazophenyl) - imidazo - [1,2-a] - pyridines; 6 - (4- nitrophenyl) imidazo - [2,1-b] - thiazole; 2- methyl - 6 - (4 - nitrophenyl) - imidazo - [2,1-b]- 1,3,4 - thiadiazole; 2 - (4 - bromophenyl) - 6- chloroimidazole - [1,2-b] - pyridazine; and 2-(4- bromophenyl) - 6 - methoxyimidazo - [1,2-b]- pyridazine. |
