The lock, e.g., for the cords used to tension an ironing board cover, consists of an inverted U-shaped body (1) with a cross bar, and a lever which is pivoted inside the body and has a projection (8) to engage with the cross bar. With the lever open, the cords can be passed between its ribbed head (6) and the top of the body. The lever can then be closed so that its head is inside the body and the cords are trapped between the two, fixing them in place.
