A method of locating a ground based jamming device that emits a signal capable of jamming GPS receivers; the device is found through physically relocating a detector in between three locations and measuring one or more characteristics of the signal at each location, the third location being displaced from the straight line passing through both the first and second locations. The detector may use the measured strength of the jamming signal or the relative time of arrival of the jamming signal to locate the position of the jamming signal. There may be a secondary detector to measure other features of the jamming signal. The detector may be incorporated into an airborne vehicle and may also comprise a step of targeting and destroying the jammer source. The location of the jammer may be represented as a probability of the jammer being in a specified cell, whereby the cells correspond to set areas on the ground. Cells may be discounted if the probability falls below a threshold value. |
