The present invention relates to a method for identifying populations of palmipeds, said method being carried out using a biological sample, i.e. of blood or feces, collected from an animal, in particular from a feather, and enabling the verification whether or not the animal from which said biological sample was collected belongs to a population of palmipeds, said method including: amplifying the SLC45A2 gene-promoting region of said sample in a reaction medium comprising at least one pair of primers by means of genomic PCR, so as to optionally obtain amplification products; separating the amplification products according to size using gel electrophoresis; and comparing the electrophoresis profiles obtained from various populations of palmipeds, such as black-eyed Muscovy ducks (BYN), red-eyed Muscovy ducks (BYR), black-eyed Peking ducks (PYN), or geese, with a view to identifying bands, the polymorphism of which is genetically linked to the locus of the SLC45A2 gene, which is involved in eye coloring and which, where appropriate, enables the parental origin of said sample to be identified. |
