A shank 10 for a shoe or boot comprising a plurality of first holes 24 intended to receive a cushioning material. The holes of the shank may be in a geometric pattern, for instance honeycomb. Preferably the shank is connected to another component of footwear such as an insole using second holes 26 of a different size to the first holes. Alternately there is a shank 10 or blakey (31, fig 4) having a plurality of void spaces 24 and at least one hole 26 to attach the shank or blakey to another component of footwear and formed by 3D printing. Preferably the plurality of holes are formed on a first region (38, fig 5a) of the shank or blakey and it comprises a second region (39, fig 5a) integrally formed with the first region and containing second holes 36. Also claimed is a method of manufacturing objects using 3D printing and a computer program. |
