<p>Provided is a method for separating oil, said method using a simple technique for the reliable, low-cost separation of oil from an oil-containing substance that contains oil, such as palm oil mill effluent which has been waste treated. Also provided are an agent for separating oil and water and a device for separating oil used in said method. The method comprises the following steps: melting steps (S11, S13) in which water having a higher temperature than the melting temperature of the oil in an oil-containing substance is added to the oil-containing substance, and the oil is melted; and separation steps (S14, S15) in which an agent for separating oil and water, said agent containing a silicon sol that gels when diluted, is added to the liquid in which the oil has been melted, and the liquid is separated into oil, water and solids.</p> |
