<p>Composite flexible articles are formed by treating a flexible wire mesh base material by coating with or embedding in a synthetic resin comprising an interpolymer of two or more dissimilar organic polymerizable substances one of which is an a -substituted acrylic ester, in particular, a methacrylate. Specified methacrylates are methyl, ethyl, octyl, methoxyethyl and naphthenyl. Other polymerizable substances include esters of a -ethyl-, propyl-, isopropyl-, amyl-, phenyl-, cyclohexyl-, methylcyclohexyl- and methyphenyl acrylic acids; vinyl esters, e.g. vinyl acetate; methyl vinyl ketone; styrene; isoprene; butadiene and chloro-2-butadiene-1.3; acrylic acid nitrile, and methyl, ethyl, cyclohexyl, tetra- and decahydronaphthyl and ethoxyethyl acrylates. The wire mesh may be coated by passing through a solution or dispersion of the interpolymer or through a bath of fused interpolymer, or by applying a plastic sheet of interpolymer by heat and/or pressure or by means of a cement, or by applying a layer of powdered interpolymer and effecting union by heat and/or pressure. A list of suitable solvents is given. Plasticizers may be incorporated. Preferably a solution is employed, the coated product being dried at 60-100 DEG C. In examples, a screen of woven oval wires is passed through a methyl acetone solution of an interpolymer of (1) methyl methacrylate and methyl acrylate, (2) ethyl methacrylate and methyl acrylate, (3) ethyl and methoxyethyl methacrylates, (4) methyl and naphthenyl methacrylates, and (5) methyl and octyl methacrylates. Other specified interpolymers are those from methyl methacrylate and acrylic acid nitrile, methyl vinyl ketone or methacrylyl urea, and ethyl methacrylate and acrylic acid nitrile.
