PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To fixedly hold the attitude of an extension support member in a sheet holding device or image reader equipped with the extension support member which is provided rotatably for a support member body and can change in attitude.SOLUTION: Respective extension trays 9 as extension support members swing between first positions shown in (A) and second positions shown in (C). When the extension trays are arranged at third positions, where a spring 77 has the maximum amount of deformation, between the first positions and second positions as shown in (B), the spring 77 applies turning force to the extension trays 9 in neither direction. However, when tip parts 9A are even a little further away from each other than third positions, the spring 77 applies turning force for movement to the first positions to the respective extension trays 9, and when the tip parts 9A are even a little closer to each other than the third positions, the spring 77 applies turning force for movement to the second positions to the respective extension trays 9. |
